About Usenet
There are lots of Usenet tutorials (links below), but one of the hurdles in accessing usenet is, in my humble opnion, the idea that people should read pages and pages of FAQs before using Usenet. The result is that people just don't use Usenet, contributing to the low signal/noise ratio. Still, there are a few key points which any usenet user should know.
1. Usenet posts are distributed to computers around the world. This means that your post *will* go to many places that you don't expect. It will also take up a fairly large amount of space/bandwidth, so please try to make your posts worthwhile..
2. Please don't waste time/space by sending personal attacks (flames) or advertisements (spam) over the internet. It's pointless and it won't get there from here anyways, as we moderate outgoing posts.
3. There are many ways to access usenet. Most people use newsreader software, though more and more people have been using web->usenet gateways like this one (or Google Groups, Recpoker.com, etc..). This site currently does NOT show certain posts which have the 'x-no-archive:yes' header and DOES moderate outgoing posts to keep from adding to the spam/flames on usenet.
If you're not happy with this interface, alternatives are available at http://directory.google.com/Top/Com...ts/Usenet/?tc=1
That should be enough to go on. More information is available using the below links but it's not necessary. Again, we moderate your outgoing posts, so if you do something 'wrong' (usually spam or flames), we simply won't forward it to usenet....
